About Play Therapy

My primary approach for working alongside your family and your child in therapy is to use play therapy.

Your child doesn't have to know how to talk about their feelings.

Through play, children naturally express experiences they often can't put into words. Play is a child’s natural medium of self-expression and provides children a chance to explore their feelings and problems, just as adults talk about their experiences and difficulties in therapy. Toys are children’s words, and play is their language, as one of the play therapy founders Gary Landreth says.

The play therapy therapeutic process equips children so they can express themselves in a healthier manner, make more thoughtful, informed choices in their life, and live up to the potential of who they have been created to be.

  • “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.”

    — Mr. Fred Rogers

  • "Play functions as a neural exercise that improves the efficiency of the neural circuit that can instantaneously down regulate fight/flight behaviors."

    — Dr. Stephen Porges
