Hello! I’m Belinda Lee.
I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT #121127) and a registered play therapist (#T5293) in San Diego, California.
I am passionate about helping kids understand and integrate challenging life experiences, especially related to medical trauma and grief and loss. I help children understand that they are not alone in their emotions, especially those who are struggling with anger and anxiety.
Healing happens when we are fully being received by another person, according to Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, a movement artist and therapist. As such, I strive to provide a space where all emotions and aspects of identity are accepted. I believe transformation occurs when children are in a confidential, nonjudgmental, and safe environment where they are allowed to explore their experiences through their natural language of play.
I seek to empower these children by increasing their emotional language and resilience so they can express themselves in a healthier manner, make more thoughtful, informed choices in their life, and live up to the potential of who they have been created to be.
About Play Therapy
My primary approach for working alongside your family and your child in therapy is to use play therapy.
Play is a child’s natural medium of self-expression and provides children a chance to explore their feelings and problems, just as adults talk about their experiences and difficulties in therapy. Toys are children’s words, and play is their language, as one of the play therapy founders Gary Landreth says.
Play therapy is a powerful tool that allows children to safely process internal and external experiences and explore their associated emotions with their particular situation.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.”
—Mr. Fred Rogers
